Hello,

We would like to officially welcome everyone to the new Molten International Tournament series. After weeks of preparation, with the collaboration of Deathwing's Tournament creators and Molten's staff we have formed the new tradition of a cross-realm arena tournament series hosted on both Cataclysm and Wrath of the Lich King expansions. Players will have the chance prove their worth and skill while fighting for valuable prizes and rewards. Both tournaments will be streamed live on the official Molten's Twitch page.

For each expansion, teams will be able to submit applications. A separate dedicated server will host the tournament and players who qualify from each realm will have the specified characters copied over to the Tournament Realm. The events will be streamed live so other people will be able to watch it in real time! Teams will be randomly sorted in a single-elimination bracket. Each match will consist of three games. The team with the best out of three will advance. Prizes consist of 6x ATI Radeon HD 7870 Graphics Card, 6x Razer Naga Molten Edition Gaming Mouse, and over 1000 Coins with an estimated total value of $3600!

Tournament Prizes

First Place RewardsSecond Place Rewards
  • 170 Coins for each team member.
Third Place Rewards
  • A mount of choice for each team member.
  • An item of choice for each team member. (Except Legendaries.)

For Cataclysm players:

  • Seven teams from the Warsong realm and three teams from each other realm be chosen to compete.
    (Team captains will be notified.)
  • Teams must have a minimum rating of 1800 in the 3v3 ladder to apply.
(The personal and team rating must be within 100 to be eligible.)
  • Team composition must consist of two DPS and one healer.
(Triple DPS and multi-healer comps are not allowed.)
  • Matches will consist of three games.
(The team who wins two out of three will proceed to the next round.)
  • Disconnections during the match will result in a loss.
    (Preventing any possible purposeful disconnections.)
  • Disconnections while in queue or the arena starting room prior to the gates opening will constitute a five minute wait period.
(If not connected after five minutes, the team will be disqualified.)
  • The Grand Finals will be best of five games.
(The winners will be crowned and rewarded!)

Gear Restrictions

Cataclysm:
  • Gear restrictions for Cataclysm players will be PvP gear only! PvE items will not be permitted (Except starter 346 iLevel PvE weapons).

Important:
  • It has been confirmed that we will NOT be supplying gear vendors for participating teams due to unforeseen complications. Players will need to provide their own gear within the restrictions. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Tournament Dates

  • The tournament for the Cataclysm realms will be hosted on SATURDAY- October 13th, 2012 at 22:00 (GMT + 5)
Your GMT can be seen here.

How to Apply
  • Application Forms for Cataclysm players are here. Application Forms for WotLK players are here.
  • Be sure you have read and meet the requirements for your expansion before applying.
  • Answer each question to the best of your ability. Make sure it's legible.
  • When asked for a screenshot of your 3v3 team statistics be sure to show each member's personal rating by clicking on the 3v3 team.
(If you have questions about how to upload a screenshot, please visit this guide here.)
  • Once you've submitted an application, be patient, it will be answered.
(If your team is accepted, the person who submitted the application will be notified.)

Warning:
  • Do not, under any circumstance, contact any staff member prior to the team selection asking about your application's status. It will be immediately declined.
  • This thread is subject to change at any time. Be sure to check back in on occasion for any possible updates.

Don't feel intimidated; it may seem scary at first. But if you enjoy playing arenas and meet the requirements, don't hesitate to apply! All applications will be looked at!

We wish you all the best of luck!

Congratulations

Congratulations to the following teams for their superb play through-out the tournament and achieving first, second, and third, respectively:
  • 1st Place: National Sarcasm Society - Noxiousz, Thundernuts, and Pantiesqt
  • 2nd Place: It Burns When IP - Hassh, Stonesour, and Kirrax
  • 3rd Place: carried by pve gear - Tramstarzz, Spookiee, and Hurtgen

Does everyone in the 3v3 team need to be within 50 rating of the TR? Cause like my team is 2100 and our 3rd guy only joined the team few days ago his PR will literally never catch up with ours because of your strange mmr system.

Yes; at least three team members must be within 50 rating for the team to be eligible. Other members that are not within 50 rating will be ineligible. This decreases the possibility of 'MMR droppers' of entering the competition.

The MMR you play at comes solely from the person that has the highest. For example if player (A) has 2500 MMR and player (B) has 1500 MMR (player (B) left the team to drop his MMR and return again) then the teams MMR would be 2500.

So why does everyone in the team need to have within 50 rating of 1700 to be eligible?

Yeah this also scares me a bit. My feral has 1.9k now and we need to boost him really fast...If Molten could just reduce a bit. I would be the happiest player in the world. Thanks for enabling multi melee. Love you.

Can't seem to post in the tourney discussion page at the moment, so i'll throw this here.

I hoped the tournament would be hosted something like:

Anyone may access the tournament realm, and only 3v3 will be playable. The top x amount of teams at the end of a specific period will be chosen to play against each other in the tournament, which would only be accessible to the winners at this point. The problem here, i would assume, is that you aren't giving an equal amount of people from each realm a chance to play. The thing is, people don't want to watch a tournament with teams composed of brain-dead 15 year olds who get 'high' ratings on Molten. They want to see the best of the best battle it out, and as unfair as it sounds to the lower rated individuals, I'm sure deep down, people streaming it feel the same way. Furthermore, despite the little difference this might make, the gear factor is negated by creating a qualification realm.

Looking over applications and only giving people with x rating and a terrible ratio a chance to play in the tourney seems a little silly. There will end up being so many tournament-worthy players that miss out because of something like this. Some players are definitely able to hit higher ratings in 3s, but can't compete due to:

a) awful queue times (some players have advantages due to timezone)
b) no incentive to play 3s
c) other players wintrading

Then, you'd say to me, "well hey, if these people aren't able to queue 3s for the above reasons, how will we know who to pick?" Well, you'd make the tournament realm available to everyone then, atleast for a certain period of time. This would combat all three of the above scenarios:

a) if you can only queue 3s (or if it's only a 3v3 tournament) queue times get better
b) the incentive to play is the prizes / tournament entry
c) no reason to wintrade on a tournament realm (no entry otherwise)

I understand that it is most likely too late to make a drastic change like this (jk, its not), but it would be in the interest of the community, considering what has been mentioned above. Also, although applying within the forum may have been an okay idea for smaller tournaments like the Deathwing Invitational, i don't think it will work effectively here.

I agree with the above post.

Also, why wouldn't you give everybody access to the same gear (ie: full vicious, maybe t2 weapons)? Gear should not be a factor whatsoever in tournaments, and I know that not (even close to) every player at qualifying ratings is 100% decked out in gear.

100% agree. More thought needed to be put into the creation of this tournament. I'm almost certain we'll have to let it slide this time, but they can't afford run something so dodgy at Christmas, or i'll personally be mad. Especially when the prizes are valued at $2000, they need to realise the variables that need to be wiped out.

I think that 1800 rating is enough...No need for 50 rating difference of PR and TR... I mean Molten could warn us eariler so we can boost some of our team mates that we plan on playing. I am just glad they updated multi melee. But I want this too so some teams may get chance to play too.

The tournament realm will not be open for everyone to play. The realm is intended to host the tournament, and only that. It is not meant to give people an outlet to do Arena, that is best left to the Warsong Instant 85 realm.

There is no restriction such as only "good" ratio teams will be able to participate. The purpose for having a rating limit (Albeit extremely low) is to prevent every player to submit an application, just because they have 3 players, regardless if they have actually played together.

The reason for having the tournament realm is not to cause incentive for a particular arena ladder, but rather to prevent such complications as seen in previous tournaments on "live" realms. As far as wintrading goes, arena ladders will be closely monitored from now until the application cut off. That is the best way we can combat against wintraders at this moment.

This was a concern we had before even creating such an event on this size of scale, but there is no need to worry how applications will be handled, as it is under control.
