A new feature has been added to player's account panels called "Marketplace". If offers you a better view of item shop and includes more browsing options. Please share your feedback in this thread.

Can someone please explain how the auction house feature will work? Will it be somehow connected with the ingame AH or what?

It will be the in-game Auction House that you can operate outside of the game - so you'll be able to buy items without having to enter the game.
